Sue Ding, ’17, wins L.A. Area Emmy Award

We want to wish hearty congratulations to CMS master’s alum Sue Ding, ’17, who on July 24 received an L.A. Area Emmy Award for Light & Space, part of KCET’s Artbound series!

Ding served as Director and Producer and shares the award with Executive Producer Juan Devis, Director of Photography/Producer Travis LaBella, Producer Jacqueline Reyno, Co-Producers Angela Boisvert Matthew Crotty, Associate Producer Amanda Marie Pinedo, and Editor Collin Davis.

“The Light and Space movement of the 1960s explored minimalism with a uniquely Californian spin — with a keen attention to the interaction of light and space. Crucially, the materials these artists relied on to create these perceptual experiences emerged from the postwar aerospace industry and its advances.”

Ding also recently received heralds as producer of the 2020 Netflix documentary The Claudia Kishi Club, which explored the impact on Asian Americans of “the stereotype-busting ‘Baby-Sitters Club’ character.

Andrew directs the communications efforts for CMS/W and its research groups. A native of Washington, D.C., he holds a degree in communication from Wake Forest University, with a minor in humanities, as well as an M.F.A. in creative writing from Emerson College.

His work includes drawing up and executing strategic communications plans, with projects including website design, social media management and training, press outreach, product launches, fundraising campaign support, and event promotions.
