Graduate Program

Comparative Media Studies is in a state of transition and has closed admissions to the graduate program for the academic years of 2009-2010 and 2010-2011 while we reorganize. We plan to accept graduate applications for academic year 2011-12 starting in Fall of 2010. Meanwhile, our undergraduate program and research activities will continue. For updates and news about ongoing CMS research and events, stay tuned here at cms.mit.edu.

For reference however, please find the most recent description of the program's requirements below.

CMS graduate students usually take three 12-unit subjects per semester, plus a 3-unit Colloquium. In their final semester they take a 24-unit course devoted to completing the Master's Thesis, plus the 3-unit Colloquium. Typically, students will graduate with a total of 144 units; however a minimum of 139 units is required for the Master's Degree in order to accommodate some electives that are 9-unit instead of 12-unit courses.
