21A.339 V Lab: Documenting Science through Video & New Media
C. Walley, C. Boebel | WebSIS

This class offers an introductory exploration of documentary film theory and production with a particular focus on documentaries about science, engineering, and related fields. Students will engage in video production as well as in social and media analysis of science documentaries. Readings will be drawn from the social studies of science as well as from documentary film theory. Our goal is to use documentary video making as a tool to explore the worlds of science and engineering and as a tool for learning to think analytically about media itself as well as about the social worlds in which science is embedded. Class includes a lab component devoted to video production in addition to class time.
